Current version: 1.0.3 · Last updated: 2026-10-24 · Requires: WordPress 6.2+, PHP 7.4+ · Name in WordPress: Info Shortcodes – Toggle & Tooltip · Plugin page ›

What the plugin does

The plugin creates short codes (shortcodes) that you place anywhere on the site – in a product description, on the delivery page or in the cart. Each code shows information as a click-to-expand block or as a question-mark tooltip. You write the text once and change it in one place for the whole site.

What it does

Click-to-expand blocks

The title works as a button – a click reveals the content below it, e.g. “How to choose the size?” or “Delivery times abroad”. The content can contain paragraphs, bold text, lists and links.

Result: long explanations do not clutter the product description, and customers open only what they need.

Tooltips

A small question mark next to the text – on hover or click it shows a short hint, e.g. next to the shipping price or a form field.

Result: the customer gets the explanation exactly where the doubt appears.

One text in many places

You paste each shortcode (e.g. [custom_info_0]) into as many products and pages as you like. When you change the text in the settings, it changes everywhere at once. There is no limit on the number of shortcodes.

Result: a change of delivery terms or dispatch time is one edit, not hundreds of product edits.

A separate text for every language

Each shortcode can have language versions with a WPML / Polylang code (e.g. en, de). The plugin picks the version in the page language and falls back to the default version.

Good to know

  • Works on any WordPress site, also without WooCommerce.
  • Its files load only on pages that use a shortcode.
  • Blocks and tooltips work with the keyboard and screen readers.

Installation and first settings

Before you start

You need WordPress 6.2 or newer, PHP 7.4+ and an administrator account. Back up your store before installing any new plugin – most hosting panels do it with one button.

Step 1: download the plugin and the licence key

After your order (Pro, or the free 3-day Free version) you get an e-mail with your licence key and a Download button. The key and the file are always available in My account → Licences on wpasist.eu.

  1. Click Download and save info-shortcodes.zip on your computer.
  2. Do not unzip the file – WordPress installs the plugin straight from the ZIP.

Safari on a Mac may unzip downloads automatically. If you see a folder instead of a ZIP file, compress it again (right-click → Compress) or turn off opening “safe” files after downloading in Safari.

Step 2: install and activate the plugin

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard (usually yourstore.com/wp-admin).
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose info-shortcodes.zip and click Install Now.
  4. When you see “Plugin installed successfully”, click Activate Plugin.

Result: the left menu now has a wpAsist item with this plugin and the Licences screen.

Step 3: activate the licence

  1. Go to wpAsist → Licences.
  2. Paste the key from the e-mail next to this plugin and click Activate licence.
  3. The status changes to Active until … (the end date of your licence).

Without an active licence the shortcodes show nothing in their place. Your texts stay saved.

The key works on one domain. If you move the store to another address, change it yourself in My account → Licences → Change domain on wpasist.eu. New versions arrive in the dashboard like any WordPress update (Dashboard → Updates) while the licence is active – your settings are kept.

Step 4: create your first shortcode

Go to wpAsist → Info Shortcodes, Shortcodes tab.

  1. Click Add new shortcode. A box appears with the code name, e.g. [custom_info_0].
  2. In Display type choose Toggle (click to expand) or Tooltip (question mark on hover).
  3. In the language version fill in: Language code – default for the main language (or leave it empty); Title / link text – the text customers click (for a tooltip: the label for screen readers); Content / tooltip text – what expands or appears in the tooltip.
  4. Click Save changes.

Step 5: add other languages (optional)

  1. In the shortcode box click Add language version.
  2. Enter the WPML / Polylang language code – the available codes are listed above the fields (Available codes).
  3. Fill in the title and content in that language and click Save changes.

Step 6: place the shortcode on the site

  1. Copy the code name from the box header, e.g. [custom_info_0].
  2. Paste it into a product description, a page or a “Shortcode” block (in Elementor: the “Shortcode” widget).
  3. Open the page – you will see the expandable block or the question mark with a tooltip.

Deleting a shortcode in the settings (trash icon) means nothing is shown where it was pasted. The numbers of the other codes do not change.

Troubleshooting

Symptom What to do
The page shows the plain text [custom_info_0] Check the code number in the settings and that you paste it where shortcodes work (e.g. a “Shortcode” block, not a “Code” block).
Nothing is shown Check that the language version has a title or content and that the licence is active.
The default text shows in another language The language code must match WPML / Polylang – check the “Available codes” list.

More about the partner program

Hi, I’m Przemek. I started out in 2009 with affiliate programs, and a year later I made it onto GVO’s list of top-selling partners worldwide. I was also selling my own online courses back when it wasn’t trendy yet.

Since 2014 I’ve been building websites and online stores for clients: setting up analytics, improving conversions, connecting systems and seeing what really sells. I’ve also seen many stores that wouldn’t be where they are today without extra features. That’s why, since 2019, I’ve been writing my own WooCommerce plugins for my clients’ needs. That’s how wpAsist was born: plugins built from the real needs of real stores.

Missing something? Get in touch. My best plugins started with a client’s question. I can also adapt any plugin to your industry.
